Description :

In this talk I will describe what working as a data science at Decathlon is like. What are the daily tasks we face as Data Scientist, technologies used and methodologies applied, and present a few interesting projects we are currently working on. If time allows, we will then jump to our last paper accepted with the team @ King's College London, "Discovering and Interpreting Biased Concepts in Online Communities", in which I will present a data-driven method to automatically discover and help interpret biased concepts encoded in word embeddings in the context of NLP and AI Fairness and Algorithmic bias.

Xavier Ferrer Aran is a Data Scientist at Decathlon UK and Visiting Research Associate at King's College London. He obtained his PhD in Informatics in 2017 from the Institut d'Investigació en Intel·ligència Artificial (IIIA-CSIC) and the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). Afterwards, he worked as a Research Associate in Digital Discrimination at the Department of Informatics at King's College London, and 1 year ago he started to work as a Data Scientist at Decathlon UK until today. His research interests are at the intersection of applied natural language processing, machine learning and fairness.
